I’ve done these monthly fitness challenges before and have always wanted to create my own. I thought what better time than the New Year. So here it is, your January Fitness Challenge. The idea is to start the month off slowly with the exercises, and every day you will slowly increase the amount of reps you do of each one (things really get cooking on the last week).

Print this out, and every day take 10-20 minutes to complete the exercises, then mark off the day and see how you progress. Put aside the time each day to work on your health and wellness. New Year, More Fit You

It’s 2014 and the first day of the new year! Millions of people around the world resolved to improve their body and mind, starting today.

Losing weight and getting fit is a challenge. If it was so easy, we would all be fit and toned all the time!

Getting into better shape starts with awareness about what your body looks like and feels like today and what you want your body to feel and look like in weeks, months and years to come.

There are tons of resources out there to help you get started on your fitness plan! I created a little plan for myself to start adding in my favorite types of workouts. It’s been a great week with the Vitamix!

It’s definitely getting used! Which is a good thing. I used our old blender everyday before this one came. But now even my husband is using it everyday. Smoothies are becoming a daily routine for him now! Woohoo!!!

We’ve also used it to make sauces for pastas, and ice cream!

We have so much fresh fruit in our house we’re starting to look like a Farmer’s Market!

Yesterday I made an amazing smoothie. Definitely one of my favorites so far.

Sam’s Almond-Strawberry-Banana Smoothie

1T 3-6-9 Oil (by Udo)
2 oz Welches Grape Juice Concentrate (the kind with the yellow lid)
2 Dates
1/4 c Sliced Almonds
1 Banana
1 c Frozen Strawberries
1T Milled Chia Seeds
1/2 c Organic Baby Spinach
1/2 c Kale
1 servings of Greens (it’s a powdered vitamin mixture I use by It Works)
1/2 c Ice

Blend and enjoy!!!! So delicious!!!!!

Vitamix Day 2

Today was day 2 with the Vitamix and it went much better than yesterday.

I made my normal smoothie this morning for breakfast, well my new usual. I just recently started adding Kale to my smoothies.

My morning smoothie consists of:

9 tablespoons of egg whites
3 tablespoons of Greek vanilla yogurt
4 tablespoons of Vanilla Almond Milk
2 scoops of powdered vitamins I take called Greens
1 tablespoon of this Udo oil my husband picked up (this is new for me too)
1/2 cup organic baby spinach
1 cup of Kale
2 cups of frozen mixed fruit
1 tablespoon of milled chia seeds
1 tablespoon of milled flax seeds
4 tablespoons of grape juice concentrate (Welches with the yellow lid)
(I just started adding the grape juice after I started adding the Kale, helps make it not so bitter)

Throw it all in the blender, and blend!

That’s how I generally make it, this morning I forgot my grape juice. But I dealt with it. It was a little bitter but nothing unbearable.

My hubs and I had some shopping to do, and I came home a little early and he had just made a watermelon slushie out of watermelon, strawberries, and ice. It was pretty tasty. Actually it would be fabulous on a hot summer day.

Dinner we made pasta. And in the Vitamix we made a sun dried tomato creamy blush sauce. And then we baked some chicken breasts.

It was delicious.

A little while later I decided to try a brownie recipe I had seen on YouTube for the Vitamix.

Which weren’t bad, rich but not too bad. Definitely need to eat them while drinking a cup of milk.

Those were almonds, chocolate chips, dried cherries, dates, and milled flax seed.

I think I needed a tad more almonds. I’ll definitely try to make them again.

Vitamix Day 1

So today we received the Vitamix. I was so excited. Found out its not exactly like all the ones we see on tv, but we’re going to try it out and see if we like it. It’s a little quieter than all of the ones we’ve seen videos on, so that’s a nice aspect.

Tonight for dinner we made soup in the Vitamix. We made Tomato Basil Soup. I think I was the only person that liked it. Hubs wasn’t a fan, and my kids basically licked their spoons and turned their noses up at it. Hubs thought it had a little too much basil. I think my kids are just too used to processed foods.

Tomato Basil Soup

3 tomatoes
2 pieces of sun-dried tomato
Sea salt (to taste)
2 stalks of celery
a pinch of onion powder
a pinch of garlic powder (I used a couple pinches)

Blend altogether. Let mixture blend until it heats up. Then add a stalk of fresh basil. Let mixture blend until everything is combined.

Then add half of an avocado and blend for a few seconds.

Viola! You have soup!

To me, tasty, to the family, not so much.

So I made the kids Nutella sandwiches. And then told them, we’d have smoothies for dessert.

Kids picked the Mango Delight Smoothie

1 medium orange, peeled, halved, seeded
1/2 medium banana peeled
1/2 mango, peeled, pitted
1/2 medium apple, seeded
1 cup of ice

Throw it in the blender, put it to 10 and blend until its the texture you want.

Hubs and I tried Cindy’s Midday Smoothie

1 medium orange, peeled , halved, seeded
4 small fresh strawberries
1/2 apple, quartered, seeded
1 cup of fresh spinach
1 cup of ice

Throw it in the blender, put it to 10 and blend until its the texture you want.

Smoothies were a hit! Both kids enjoyed them. And the hubs and I enjoyed ours.

First blog!

Ok first day with a new blog, I’ve had a few over the years… But I wanted one where I can make easily accessible info to pull later on. This blog going to be about my journey. My journey to a healthier lifestyle. Something I’ve tried and failed at achieving a few times, but the important thing is I haven’t completely given up. I keep coming back and trying again.

Last year I had my biggest success when I comes to weight loss. I was 209lbs and the day of my wedding I was 184. I felt good. I felt like I was starting to look good! I was happy. Then I never came back from my honeymoon. Until about 15 pounds later. I’ve managed to lose 5 of those pounds…. But I’ve been struggling. I think part of it has been the weather, cold, wet, and depressing. I had started to lose my Spark. I started gaining again. Thankfully I pulled my head out of my rear end this week and and found my Spark again. I’m back to losing. And I hope this is the new path I’m going to stick to.

Today I should receive the Vitamix I ordered. I am super excited about this. It’s pretty dang awesome and I can’t wait to see what I will whip up in it. It’ll be even more awesome once my husband and I get a house, and have more storage space!!! I have some mason jars already bought and ready to go, to hold some of the wonderful things I’m sure we will be making, such as nut butters.

Ok so 2 days ago I started a 30 day squat challenge today is day 3. I have set the program as the lock screening my phone so I do not forget to do it. One of the reasons I picked the squat challenge is because it is something I can do at work. I work a desk job, and it keeps me pretty stationary. But every time I stand up, before I sit back down, doing 5-10 squats is manageable. Today is 60 squats.
Also to work my upper body (because I have weak arms) I have decided to do a 30 day push up routine. I started with half the amount of push ups that I did squats. So day 1 was 25. And I increase my push-ups by the amount my squats have gone up. So day 2 with squats was 55, so I increased my push-ups by 5 and did 30 yesterday.

Ok my goal is to write here at least once a week. Hopefully more. We shall see.
